Julia Roberts was born on October 28, 1967 in Smyrna, Georgia (USA). Her parents were Walter who worked as a vacuum cleaner salesman, writer and an actor and Betty who is an actress and a church secretary. It was financila difficulties which made her parents divorce. The mother went away with the two daughters while the father took the elder son Eric. However Julia's father passed away when she was just 10.
No one knew that skinny girl with long legs and rich curly hair would one day become one of the most accomplished actress of the Hollywood industry. She had very little interest in acting and basically she wanted to be a veterinarian. After graduating from Campbell High School in Smyrna, Julia joined her sister Lisa and brother Eric in New York to go to theater school.
When her brother, Eric Roberts, achieved some success in Hollywood, Julia decided to try acting. Her first break came in 1988 when she appeared in two youth-oriented movies Mystic Pizza (1988) and Satisfaction (1988). Julia played a pizza waitress in "Mystic Pizza" and then she co-starred with Liam Neeson in "Satisfaction". Things started to get hot behind the camera as well between Julia and Liam. One year later she starred in "Steel Magnolias" opposite her fiancé at that time, Dylan McDermott. In 1990, when the film "Pretty Woman" came to the screen, it turned a talented beginner actress into superstar. Suddenly, everybody wanted Julia, papers wrote about her every day, the box office profits sky rocketed, and the whole world talked about Julia.
"Pretty Woman" was the biggest success for Julia Roberts. Julia got an Oscar nomination, and also won the People's Choice award for Favorite Actress.
